Tom Luicci of The Star-Ledger has posted an interview with Rutgers' Dean Kirschner, the interim athletic director. Check out the post here. Dean Kirschner seems to have a good handle on what needs to be done as he aids in the search for a fulltime replacement for Bob Mulcahy. It's good to see that Dean Kirschner believes that the new AD should have some understanding of the Rutgers "context," though I'm not sure what that means. Does the person need to have intimate knowledge of Rutgers, or just have experience at an institution with a similar history and future outlook? Of course, having both would be best, but I'd settle for the latter.
One thing I will say is that I hope that the new AD will reinstate at least some of the varsity sports that were recently eliminated, particularly the varsity status of the crew team. It seems assinine to me that the oldest varsity sport at the school was cut, especially when the school's fight song directly references the crew team. Upstream Red team, is more meaningful when there is an actual team competing on the water, no?
