Recent Rutgers Football Roster Changes
From the press conferences and through various news outlets,
here's a quick recap of some of the recent roster changes for Rutgers football and a couple comments.
Tyreek Maddox-Williams |
I'll start off with an unfortunate development, Keith Sargeant of NJ.com reported that sophomore linebacker Tyreek Maddox-Williams
will miss the season with a knee injury sustained in practice. An All Big Ten
Freshman team selection at linebacker, Maddox-Williams will certainly be missed
and I hope he has a speedy recovery. The Scarlet Knights are in a much better
position than last year to absorb his loss, as the linebacker corps is a deeper
group going into the season.
First reported by the Pardon My Take podcast, quarterback
Tom Flacco has transferred to Rutgers from Western Michigan
University . Flacco has
been added to the official roster at ScarletKnights.com. The brother of Baltimore
Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, Tom is considered a dual-threat quarterback who
will have two seasons of eligibility remaining after sitting out this year.
Recent Georgia
transfer Juwuan Briscoe is back home and currently not with the team. Ash said
he is back in Georgia
dealing with some personal things and his return to Rutgers
is uncertain. He is currently not listed on the official roster.

Tre Avery |
On the flipside of that, Rutgers added a cornerback transfer
from Toledo in
the person of Tre Avery. Originally committed to Ohio State
and formerly known as Kareem Felder, Avery was recruited to the Buckeyes by Chris Ash
in 2016. After sitting out this season, Avery will have three years of
eligibility.

Tommy Wyatt |
Tommy Wyatt, the walk-on transfer from Temple , has switched positions from
quarterback to wide receiver. Listed at 6'3" and 206 pounds, Wyatt rivals
the Mitchell brothers in terms of who the largest receiver is at Rutgers (not counting the tight ends). Surely, it'll take
Wyatt some time to get acclimated to the position, but with his physical tools
I wouldn't be surprised if we see him on the field in the coming years.
Also, Garrett Stepien posted an excellent update on the physical improvements made by the Rutgers football team from the spring until now. It's worth checking out here.
