Deals and Practice
I haven't commented on the Rutgers/SNY deal, but from where I sit I can't see anything but positives coming from that. I don't know about you, but before the past two seasons it was difficult to catch an RU game on television. That always drove me nuts because I felt that even if the team wasn't good, as the State University they should have had at least some sort of regional exposure from all of the cable companies operating in the state. The SNY deal is huge because win or lose kids from all over the area will grow up watching Rutgers football. Gone are the days of having to watch the game 4 hours after it was played or straining to view it on the Internet.
It seems one of Rutgers 2009 recruits, Mark Brazinski, has de-committed. I was sorry to see that, but almost immediately Rutgers added two more offensive line recruits. I'm going to comment less on the recruiting efforts from now on. It just seems to me that recruits give their verbals too early in the year to get too excited or negative about who's committing and who isn't. So, I'll probably just make passing comments on these types of things unless we're near LOI day.
Congratulations to Tiquan Underwood for being nominated for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Always great to see a Rutgers man take a strong initiative to help his community. Student athletes have so many time-consuming commitments, that it amazes me that guys like Tiquan find the time. It's a real testament to his character.
This isn't football related, but I just saw on scarletknights.com that former RU baseball standout Darrin Winston passed away. The article doesn't go into detail as to how, but it gave me a chill. Winston and I played in the same Little League, although he was quite a few years older than me. Still, I remember that he would come back to the fields from time to time to help give me and the other all-star pitchers some pointers before we played the summer tournaments. From the times I met him, he seemed like a great guy and a good person. My sympathies go out to his family and friends.
