Stadium Expansion Vid
On Scarletknights.com, RU has posted a vid of Bob Mulcahy serving as a kind of informational tour guide for a gaggle of reporters as they examined the stadium work zone. He led them through the area that will be the club seats, what he refers to as Phase 1. Then there were camera shots of Phase 2, which is the construction taking place in the South end zone. It was smart on the part of the University to have him do this guided tour and press conference to counteract some of the negative press the school had been getting.

Thankfully, and of utmost importance, seven minutes into the video, someone asked about the canon. Mulcahy said, he's resolving that and that he "gets a lot of questions about it." Hallelujah!!
The club seats and lounge project is on time to be completed before the Fresno State game and on budget. Some reporters were getting testy while quizzing the AD on the need for the expansion. Mulcahy pulled out some interesting facts. Of the 852 club seats, they have received 1,020 requests for reservations. There are 28 high-end loge boxes and the school has received 40 requests for them. In addition, donations to the athletic department are at an all-time high of over $7 million in the last fiscal year ending June 30.
In August, they will reassess the expansion by taking a look at all the bids. At that point, any cuts made to the expansion project would be discussed and debated. Regardless of what superficial things may be cut, Mulcahy said he expects to have the 13,000 seats by August 2009 as part of the 102 million.
One thing I was kind of disappointed in was the revelation that the school is likely to strongly consider selling naming rights to the stadium. But in today's world, with the stadium costs and the costs of athletics being what they are, that's simply going to become the norm.
My main question, though, is where do I get one of those Rutgers hardhats?
